WIWW: Quotes + Link Up

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Sometimes an outfit is so classic (read: boring) that there isn't much to say about it. This is one of those outfits, so rather than fill this space up with boring blahblahblah about some normal outfit, I'll give you some quotes from my kids and Chris lately.

Chris: Want to know how I always know when my wife is home?
Me: How?
Chris: (singing) Everyyyy light in the house is onnnn...

Yesterday, while eating an avocado at lunch, a student came up to me and said, "Mrs. Tucker! I didn't know olives grew inside avocados!" Face-palm right then and there.

While watching The Bachelor...the scene where Jade gets to be a princess:
Chris: Do those red soles mean Neil Lane?
Me: (head down, in shame) No, honey, Neil Lane designs jewelry. Those are Loubs.

I came in one morning with makeup on:
Student: Mrs. Tucker! You're glowing! Are you pregnant?!
Me: (I shot them "the look")

My New Favorite Sweater

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

I might have worn this shirt/sweater way too many times in the last week. It is so soft and goes with everything. I love the detail of the back. You can see through the back, but not so much that it's like, "Hey! Check out my back!"

Another thing that has been on repeat often (maybe too often?) lately is this side braid. I can do this in about 45 seconds and still look somewhat put together at school. It is a step up from my normal pony-tail. There is a teacher at school that always comments when I have my hair down because she says she has never seen anyone wear there hair up more than me. #guilty

And thanks for all the loving comments about our new floors! Once again the day got away from me, and I wasn't home before the sun went down. Pictures of the final product coming soon!

Floor Renovation || Part 1

Monday, January 26, 2015

I have to break this renovation into two parts because were out and about yesterday and we didn't have time to move all the furniture back and take pictures, so hopefully I can get home in time to take some after pictures!

For now, here are some details about the floors we chose, and why.

Back in March when we bought our house we knew the carpets would have to go. Having Bailey and Wrigley is basically guaranteeing that we will never be a "carpet" family. By December the carpets were ewww. They probably looked fine to most, but Chris and I could tell that they were really on their last leg. We would vacuum all the time, rent a steam cleaner, but they never looked like they did when we moved in.

After a little research, we decided laminate was the best option for people with dogs. Real wood scratches easily and we loved those new wood tiles, but we had tile in our old house and my feet hurt all the time from the floor being so hard.

We had been scouring the options Home Depot for quite some time. Over Thanksgiving break we had a contractor come out and he gave us a ridiculously high quote that got us a little discouraged. One day my Dad and I were at Home Depot and one thing led to another and we found out they were having a deal where they would install your laminate (up to 1,000 sq. ft.) for a flat rate of $497. Since we were doing almost 800 square feet, this seemed like the best option.

We chose a more rustic look. We love the dark wood floors, but people have said that the dark shows everything and we knew that would be awful with dogs. We ended up going with Country Oak Sundown and couldn't be more thrilled! It has natural looking imperfections and isn't too dark, or too light.

We rearranged our bedroom, bought a couple new rugs, and are planning more updates soon. This renovation has kick-started our itch for updating our house and we can't stop thinking about what project is next.

Here are a few pictures. I can't wait to show y'all how they look with all the furniture in place!

Currently...

Lots of puppy selfies while waiting for their daddy to rip up all the tile. We got strict orders to "stay away" from the flying shards!

LISTENING TO: I am sitting in our guest room bed watching the Bachelor...at 7:06 in the morning. We are getting our floors installed today (eeekkk!), so I am confined to this little room while the rest of our house looks like a concrete jungle.

EATING: a banana and apple pie flavored Greek yogurt.

DRINKING: water and coffee. hydrate, dehydrate. hydrate, dehydrate.

WEARING: a tee-shirt and Buc-ee's boxers.

LOVING: the fact that by tomorrow we will have a house full of beautiful new floors. Bye bye carpet!! I won't miss you!

STARING AT: Bailey looking at me wanting to get on the bed.

Happy weekend, friends!!

WIWW: Construction Zone + Link Up

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

At this point, I am standing in my living room looking into our kitchen at this:

We are in the middle of a large renovation and our house looks like a construction zone. Everything in our living room, hallway, and master bedroom is currently in our kitchen making it very hard to get anything done around here. This whole project will be wrapped up on Saturday, so I should (fingers crossed!) have a regular outfit post next week.

Until then, here are some of the things on my birthday/Valentine's Day list!

Now for the link up!

Weekend Getaway || KC Restaurant Week

Monday, January 19, 2015

This weekend I jetted off to Kansas City with my mother-in-law and family friend. My sister-in-law and family friend's daughter live in KC, so we decided to have a little girl's weekend. The boys all went skiing, so did they really think we all were just going to sit at home?

Early Saturday morning we headed north. We arrive in KC around 8:30am. We lounged at the girl's apartment until it was time to get ready for brunch at Cooper's Hawk.

By the time we sat down for brunch at 11:45am, I had already been up for almost nine hours, so I was too starving to take a picture of my delicious meal. They have the most amazing amazing pretzel bread! For my entree I got parmesan crusted chicken. There was not a morsel left on anyone's plate.

After brunch we packed our stuffed little bodies into the car and headed to the mall. My SIL and friend wanted ankle boots like mine, so we were on the hunt. I think we walked away with four pairs for two people, so I'd say the trip was a success.

We went back to the apartment to get ready for dinner at The Capital Grille. At dinner we had more than enough wine, steak, lobster mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and dessert. It was all to die for. Good thing I packed my stretchy pants!!

After dinner we headed back to Cooper's Hawk to do a wine tasting. Along the way we stopped in at Sperry and my SIL ended up buying these booties and decided she would return one of the pairs she bought earlier that day.

We ended the night with more than enough wine in our system and enough laughs to make our bellies hurt.

Sunday we woke up and headed to brunch at Louie's Wine Dive. It was a really cute restaurant in the Waldo area of Kansas City. The only problem was that it was so loud. Literally, we were yelling across the table. The brick walls and wood floors did not absorb any of the sound.

After brunch we did a little more shopping then headed back to my SIL's to relax before we caught our evening flight.

It was such a fun weekend getaway and seemed like we were there way longer than 48 hours. I'm so glad we booked this trip on a whim!! Cheers to being young and sorta spontaneous!

The Husband's Secret

Thursday, January 15, 2015

No, Chris has no secret, sorry. But I've been reading this book, The Husband's Secret, and it is so good! It is an easy read, totally girly, and right up my chick-flick alley.

I bought it, and another book, for myself for Christmas! Just like I mentioned yesterday, I am such a advocate for buying yourself Christmas gifts. I told Chris I wanted this book and the closest Barnes and Noble is at the mall. Except, there is one right by my school. After little convincing, Chris said I could just stop by after school and get the books I wanted. He was not about to go to the mall right before Christmas.

What are you reading lately? I am a sucker for Emily Giffin type books, so if you love her work, you'll love this book!

WIWW: Quilted Jacket + Link Up

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Sometimes you put together outfits and you wonder why you never thought of that combo before. That's how I feel about this outfit.

And, sometimes you buy yourself a jacket for Christmas, wrap it up, open it on Christmas morning and say, "Yay! Thank you, me, for buying me this jacket." Then you get weird stares from you family, but their family, so they have to love you.

I found this jacket the week before Christmas at Francesca's for 40% off. One of my teacher friends was with me and I blame her for making me buy it. But, then I realize how cute it is and it's no longer her fault. I blame Francesca's in general

Ralph Lauren || Bedside Lamps

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

I've wanted new bedside for awhile now. Our old ones (seen here) were an impulse purchase and never really were our style.

For Christmas my Mom and Dad said they would buy us new lamps. When I found these Ralph Lauren beauties, there was no looking back. To me, they are timeless, and pieces that we will have forever. I wanted something with a clear base and a white shade.

Within the next couple weeks we are doing a major home improvement project and I've already got plans on how this room will change, once again, so stay tuned!

Harry's || A Party || An App

Monday, January 12, 2015

This weekend was just what I needed after a the first week back to school. It is tough getting back into the swing of things!

Thursday night we tried out a new-to-us restaurant called Harry's an the Harbor. It was so good! I love discovering new places that Chris and I call "repeaters."

Friday was, well, Friday. My kids won a contest at school, so we got an afternoon full of popcorn and a movie. Those are the afternoons teachers and students love!

Friday night Chris and I went to our new favorite Chinese food restaurant. We are trying to branch out from our normal burger place.

Saturday we did things around the house. The dogs went to the groomer to get bathed and have their nails trimmed. I finally got around to cleaning up the guest rooms after having a house full of people over Christmas. This was our first weekend to not have somewhere to go in I don't know how long. It felt good to just be home.

Saturday night we went to our friend's annual Texas party. They are from Indiana and they celebrate the anniversary of when they moved to Texas. It is such a fun party that we look forward to each year!

Sunday was rainy and dreary. We started the day off with a trip to Spoons, our normal go-to breakfast spot. The rest of the day was spent doing laundry and me playing on the new WeStyle app.

Just like it says, it is style made social.

On the WeStyle app you can post a picture of an outfit and a) ask people if what your wearing works together, etc. and they can vote yes or no, b) create a collage to compare two outfits/pairs of shoes/etc. and have people help you decide which pick is better, or c) post something (an outfit, accessory, hairstyle, etc.) to inspire people.

Here is my WeStyle profile. My name is the same as my instagram, so download the app and follow along!

The WeStyle app just launched on Friday. It is a lot like instagram, but I love that it is fashion and style centered. I also really like the different options you have when posting; ask, decide, or inspire. Husbands and significant others are not always the greatest at telling you if something works, so it is fun to be able to post it on WeStyle and see what others think!

Since most of my weekend was spent in pj's, I posted some old outfits just to try out the app. You can download WeStyle here, or search for it in your app store on you phone. When you download it, search for me, SarahTuckerUp

Now it is Sunday night and I'm gearing up for another week of school. Not that I'm counting or anything, but there are 10 weeks until Spring Break. Like I said, not that I'm counting or anything...

Happy Monday!
